Melissa Estadilla (born August 4, 1999) is a writer, poet, and full-time student. She currently attends the University of California, Irvine as a pharmaceutical sciences major. Her writing career began in 2011, with immediate success as a fanfiction writer on FanFiction.net. Since then, she has published 29 fanfictions under various aliases and continues to write for various fandoms on Archive Of Our Own.
Her early works focused on personal interpretations and introspections of various characters, while trying to establish her own writing style and footing as an author. Her recent works explore themes of romance, mental illness, isolation, and absurdism.
She finds inspiration in the writing of Margaret Atwood, Dave Eggers, Kurt Vonnegut, Oscar Wilde, and Bryan Fuller.
Early life and education
Estadilla was born in Loma Linda, California, USA, the second of three daughters of Ronie Estadilla and Mary Belle Estadilla, both registered nurses from the Philippines. Her parents' professions influenced her to pursue science.
Estadilla attended Grand Terrace High School and graduated amongst the top of her class in 2017.
In 2017, she began studying at the University of California, Irvine as a pharmaceutical sciences major. Though she took a year off in 2019 to focus on her mental health and briefly attended Riverside City College, she resumed her studies at the University of California, Irvine in 2020. Her expected graduation date is 2022.

Opinion on cetaceans
Estadilla has a deep loathing of cetaceans due to the lack of logic in their evolutionary adaptations and way of life. She does not think it is smart for an animal to live where it can drown to death. Research has shown that cetaceans first lived in the water, evolved lungs to exist on dry land, and then evolved to survive in the water again despite the development of the lungs specifically for dry land. "Holding your breath for a really long time is stupid," she said in a private 2019 interview with journalist Andrew Alvidrez. "You have lungs. Use them. Grow some legs, already."
