Line Art
In creating this work of art I thoroughly explored the use of line. My artwork shows a peaceful sunrise over the mountains, with trees and fields in the foreground. A small cabin sits in the valley near a stream with boats.
Notan
The word Notan comes from Japanese and means dark-light. This exercise helps artists understand and control shapes, positive and negative space, and composition. My project was very simple since this was my first time doing a Notan. I tried to do better, but I am still learning how to create a strong, complete piece of Notan artwork. Later in the semester I Got some help from Ms. Padgett on how to make my Notan better. She worked with me and showed me how to better create anothe work of art. After doing some more work, I improved it and ended up getting a better grade.
Shape Art
In this project I created my own original work that uses shape as the primary element to communicate.
Figurative Thumbnail Sketches
This is where I modeled artistic behavior by developing a skill. I documented this in thumbnail sketches. These are my 5-8 figurative composition studies, thumbnail sketches.
This is the Style Study Figurative Mini Series.
In our figurative style mini series, the process began with laying down a first layer of paint over the whole canvas for each of our three works. Only once the surface was fully covered could we start building the figure on top.
This is my finished artworks of the style study by Jylian Gustlin.
Style Mash Up Mini Series.
In my Style Mash Up Mini Series, my three words that I chose are: Vibrant, Landscape, and Balance. I Chose to Mash Up Andy Warhol and Grandma Moses. I used Warhol's bold colors and repetition with Moses's nostalgic sense of place. This is where pop-art energy meets pastoral calm.
Intro to Color Mixing and Theory
In this Module I created a Color Studies board that showed my color mixing abilities. I label my studies.
Color wheel (12 parts)
3 Tint Charts (7parts each - mixing black with the color and white with the color)
3 Intensity Charts (7 parts each - mixing complementary colors)
3 Unique Tones (mixing grays with the color)
Color Schemes Original Mini Artworks
I chose to do a monochromatic scheme using mountain landscape using only blues, a complementary scheme that I I will paint a still life using a sunflower with yellows and a purple background. an analogous scheme using underwater scene with greens and blues, and I will paint a still life using a sunflower with yellows and a purple background.
I created a series of 6 collages that create the illusion of depth in 6 unique ways.
These are the illusion of depth collages. They are 6x6.
The first one is perspective.
The second one is overlapping.
The third one is size.
The fourth one is placement.
The fifth one is value and color. I thought I would do temperature. The colors are cooler in the back and warmer in the front.
The sixth one is detail
The first picture is called, " Depth of Comfort."
The second picture is called, " Overlap at Sea."
The third picture is called," Mountain at a Distance."
The fourth one is called," A Stillness Beyond Light."
The fifth one is called," Where Color Falls in the Distance."
The Last one is called," Edge of Detail."
I worked on Compositional Studies which means that I practiced drawings and sketches that help artists plan how to arrange an artwork. Like where to put the subject, background, and other elements so the picture looks balanced.
I had to Create a multi-media artwork using these guidelines:
Choose a composition type and interpret a significant historic event (that took place between the years 1500-2000) into a work of art.
Use 3 or more photographic reference image.
Use 3 or more 2D media (such as collage, ink, oil pastels, chalk pastels, acrylic, watercolor).
The subject matter and finished artwork should be challenging, creative, and thought provoking.
The finished work should exhibit excellent craftsmanship.
I chose to do a project about Women's Sufferage. I want to do the suffragett colors that are purple, white, and gold. Collage of banner and some portraits. I want to show voice, courage, and identity. Maybe showing the past, the event, and the impact today. I used acrylic paint, oil pastels, and collage with photographic refrence images. Womens Sufferage took place in 1920 with the ratification of the 19 the amendment which gave women the right to vote.
