Melike Kökkızıl
Welcome to my personal website!
I am an economist working at the intersection of cultural economics, economics of education, economics of gender, and political economy. I am a Max Weber Fellow and a part-time assistant professor at the Department of Economics at the European University Institute.
I obtained my Ph.D. in Economics in 2021 from the University of Milan-Bicocca. My Ph.D. thesis, Essays on Religiosity and Women’s Empowerment, studies the gender-differential effects of religious practices on several educational outcomes and their implications for women’s empowerment.
Previously, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Economics, Free University of Bolzano-Bozen. Before my Ph.D., I worked as a short-term consultant at the World Bank and an international collaborator at the International Labour Office. One of my pre-doctoral studies appeared in Social Indicators Research.
