The career that I have decided to pursue is mechanical engineering. I chose this because it had always caught my attention ever since i was young, i have always wanted a more problem solving, hands on career. My dad is an electrical engineer and he would always show me some of what he was doing at work which caught my attention and led me to mechanical engineering as my career choice. I first decided that mechanical engineering was right for me when I did some construction work with my dad. My dad had done a lot of construction work before becoming an engineer so he wanted me to know how to work with my hands. I like hands-on work but I knew that I didn't want to choose that as a career so I picked mechanical engineering, a mix of both.
This is my second year of high school and I am currently taking honors geometry which is fundamental to engineering since geometry bridges the gap between math formulas and the real world. Mechanical engineers design, analyze, and manufacture physical objects, which all need spatial reasoning.
I play for the Great Mills soccer team and it has shown me the importance of teamwork, effort , leadership and following directions. During my first season I learned that discipline and resilience was important, as well as teamwork, all of which I can use everyday. Soccer is one of the best things I could have done joining high school and I believe it also helps me with my career choice by giving me the teamwork and leadership skills to excel as a mechanical engineer. Although I haven't had a real job, I've worked with my dad and I have learned how to use many different types of tools. I've also learned how to problem solve, which is huge in engineering.
After high school I would either attend a 4 year university or attend 2 years of community college then attend university. I would attend 4 years of university if I had got some sort of scholarship but if i don’t I will just do 2 years of community college then 2 years of university. I would do this because I wouldn't want to get into a lot of college debt and owe some much at a young age.
After achieving my career goal I would like to give back to the community by repairing things at any local business, help non profit organizations by working on sustainable water, energy, or housing projects. I would like to have an impact on the world by helping solve problems like dirty water, lack of food supply, and clean energy. I would also like to make transportation more efficient and reliable. Once I become a mechanical engineer I would strive to help society in any way I can and to inspire others.
