Your hosts, Karen and Michael Clarke have run a Wu style Tai Chi Chuan (Tàijíquán) school in Wantirna South, Victoria since 2016.
With a strong emphasis on practical and martial applications of Tai Chi Chuan, their school is something of a rarity, standing out from the mainstream practice of Tai Chi as simplified forms and gentle exercise for health. Qilin remains true to its roots and Hong Kong family lineage, by adhering to the complex long forms and fighting training methods that were historically fundamental to Tai Chi Chuan practice. Offering an authentic, traditional curriculum including rigorous conditioning, self defense training and mastery of combat with Chinese sword, sabre and spear.
Michael and Karen Clarke are your first point of contact for this workshop, and will act as Assistant Instructors on the day.

Our Guest Instructor, David McLeary, is an experienced practitioner and Lǎoshī (teacher). With over a decade of study under sword master Scott M. Rodell (USA), he is the sole disciple and representative, in Australia, of the international Academy of Chinese Swordsmanship.
David's regular classes in Canberra focus on five essential components of Chinese sword art, including:
Basic cuts and technique
Solo forms
Partner drills
Test cutting
Freeplay
Coming to Melbourne especially for this event, David is helping to drive the establishment of an Australian Network of Chinese Swordsmanship, and creating opportunities for local practitioners to engage in workshops and competition, around the country and overseas.
Scott M. Rodell is a highly esteemed swordsman and respected scholar of Chinese sword traditions. Based in the USA, Rodell Lǎoshī has travelled the world delivering popular workshops on Chinese Swordsmanship as found in his practice of Yángjiā Mìchuán Tàijíquán. We are grateful to have the guidance of Rodell Lǎoshī and his Academy of Chinese Swordsmanship - a leading online resource and basis of a thriving, international Jiànfǎ community. Scott M. Rodell has played a crucial role in generating renewed interest in Chinese swordsmanship, through his rigorous study of the historical record, and revival of long neglected Chinese sword art traditions.
Rodell Lǎoshī will not be present at the workshop, he is however, primarily responsible for developing the curriculum and content which will be covered.
