Hello! My name is Melanie Valone. I am an alumni of John Hardin High School (Class of 2016) and Western Kentucky University (Class of 2020), where I have obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. I am currently an elementary music teacher and woodwind instructor for Simpson County Schools in Franklin, KY. I am extremely passionate about music and my career goals of being a public school educator while also running a clarinet studio. I have played Bb soprano clarinet since the 6th grade (12 years!) and have been playing Bb bass clarinet, Eb sopranino clarinet, and A soprano (orchestral) clarinet since my college years. I offer lessons in all of these instruments in the clarinet family.
Some accomplishments of mine include being a member of the 2016 Kentucky All State Symphonic Band, serving as principal player for WKU's top ensembles (Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra), and planning and performing a senior recital.
I have taken lessons and attended masterclasses and recitals from the following talents:
Dr. John Cipolla, WKU Clarinet & Saxophone Professor who I have taken hundreds of lessons with
Michael Lowenstern, Earspasm Music
Boris Allakhverdyan, Principal Clarinetist at LA Philharmonic
Dr. Spencer Prewitt, Clarinet Professor at Austin Peay State University
Kevin Schempf, Clarinet Professor at Bowling Green State University
Dr. Jesse Krebs, Clarinet Professor at Truman State University
In my studio, I will make sure each lesson is outlined as follows: Warm-up, scales, etudes/studies, and solo repertoire. I will make each and every lesson unique to the student's own learning levels and goals. I will provide structure and music from my inventory to anyone that does not have the materials, as well as students who are seeking more materials or a challenge. If anyone joins my studio with personal goals and repertoire of their own, I will be more than happy to create goals and structure for achievement of those personal strides as well.
I will teach middle and high school students from various skill sets. I have experience teaching students from taking the clarinet out of the case for the first time up to high school seniors.
Lessons are $15 for a 30 minute lesson, or $30 for an hour, and they will take place on Zoom, Google Meet, or Skype, whichever works best for the student. Lessons may be recorded to document student progress. I am very flexible in adapting to every students' needs and making sure they receive the best connection and highest quality in their lessons. All that is required is a smart phone or other device with internet capabilities!
To every member of my studio, I will make sure to provide audio/video of me playing through materials, opportunities for us both to play together through duets and more, and my contact information, as well as any experience and resources I can offer to you. I am so excited to teach and be a part of each student's special journey as a growing musician!
