One of the topics I'm passionate about outside of my 9-5 is understanding how and why science as a profession has changed over time. I have focused on the history of Maria Mitchell, especially in physical media, to understand how the first internationally renouned US astronomer's life was interpreted in her time all the way through to ours. The book collection won the 2021 Honey and Wax Prize, and I am currently in the process of synthesizing and writing up findings from this experience!

And if you've read this far, here's your periodic reminder that the term "scientist" in English was coined to be expliclty gender-inclusive, as Mary Somerville was no 'man of science'.
