AP US Government & Politics

Class Overview

Advanced Placement (AP) United States Government and Politics is a full year course on the structure and processes of government in the United States. The course is designed to provide a college-equivalent introduction to the material, and students will have the opportunity to earn college credit for their work by taking the AP exam on May 6th.

It deserves emphasis that the goals of this course go beyond a simple explanation and understanding of how the US government “works.” Rather, students will be expected to develop a critical understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the American political system, as well as their own rights and responsibilities as citizens.

About me

Becoming a teacher was a decision rooted in my belief in the transformative power of education. Inspired by the educators who shaped my own academic journey, I chose to embark on the path of teaching to pay forward the guidance and inspiration I received. The desire to instill a love for learning and foster critical thinking in the minds of students motivated me to pursue education. As I look ahead to the upcoming year in AP US Government, I am particularly excited about the prospect of cultivating a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment for my students. I anticipate delving into the complexities of the American political system, sparking engaging discussions, and witnessing the growth of my students as they navigate and analyze the intricate landscape of US government. It is my aspiration that each student leaves the semester not only with a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter but also with a heightened curiosity and appreciation for the democratic processes that shape our society.
