Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome back! On behalf of our faculty and staff, we would like to welcome our new PreK, Kindergarten and all students who will be attending Meigs South for the first time. We look forward to getting to know each of you. For those students who will be returning, we are so excited to welcome you back.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce several new members of our Meigs South family, beginning with Maddie Graves and Kami Dillon. Ms. Graves will be teaching 1st grade and Mrs. Dillon will be teaching 3rd grade ELA and Social Studies. I would also like to welcome Brittany Morrow back who will be joining our 2nd grade team. In addition, I am excited to welcome Elissa Henley and Brandy Kelly who will be serving as paraprofessionals.
With the retirement of Jean Roberts, I am excited to share that Cicely Barker will be replacing Mrs. Roberts as one of our special education teachers and Wendi Powell will be serving as assistant principal as she continues to teach 5th grade science. Anna Summers will serve as Title I Coordinator/reading interventionist as that position was previously held by Mrs. Barker.
It has been a busy summer with many changes and additions taking place. I first want to thank the many faculty and staff members, their families, PTO, and community members who came out for our campus clean-up project prior to school starting. It was exciting to see so many join together to improve our campus. I also want to express my appreciation to Eddie King and Angie Standridge for their diligence to have the school looking great and ready for the new year. Also, Leon and Angie Judd for their efforts to paint our cafeteria.
I would like to thank our PTO for their continued support as they purchased a new slide for our upper grades’ playground, a new gaga pit and play area which was extended from the lower grades’ playground, and funded a mural in our cafeteria. Their continued support to improve our school and provide the best for our students is greatly appreciated. I encourage parents who want to be more involved with our school to join our PTO. They are continually seeking ways to be of assistance and would welcome other parent’s ideas and suggestions as to how they can help our school continue to improve and provide the best for our students.
I am extremely appreciative of Mr. Baker and our school board for their contribution of a new playground, new computers for both labs, and student Chromebooks. These additions were much needed and I am grateful for our school board’s support. I look forward to seeing the students enjoy these new additions as I am certain they will be so excited! The playground and new slide should be ready for student’s to enjoy at the end of September.
We are blessed at Meigs South to have an incredibly talented, caring, and all-around great faculty and staff. The teachers have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming school year and will give our best to help your child reach their potential. I want to take this opportunity to thank them for their efforts to make this school year a successful one.
As always at the beginning of the school year, I look forward to the face to face interaction with all the students. We have an open door policy at Meigs South and welcome families to our school any time there is a question of concern regarding your child. I look forward to an awesome year!
