Megumi Matsutani holds a Ph.D. in Aeronautics & Astronautics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.Eng. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Tokyo. At MIT and NASA, she worked on autonomous control systems. She joined Goldman Sachs as a quantitative strategist, first in Tokyo and later in New York, focusing on Interest Rates derivatives modeling and trading automation on the desk. Drawn to applying machine learning at scale beyond finance, Megumi moved to ZOZO, where she founded the AI research team and led the enterprise data strategy as Chief Strategy Officer. For a joint project with academia—deploying AI to e-commerce’s production system—she received the Japan Open Innovation Prize (Prime Minister’s Award).
Today she serves as Partner & CDO at D Capital, Inc. Her work centers on helping Japanese enterprises execute digital transformation: building data foundations, introducing AI/optimization to operations, and developing technical leadership inside organizations. She focuses on turning research into sustainable, on‑the‑ground results.
