Meghan Cabral is currently at HS band teacher in Carmel NY. Previously, prior to budget cuts she was K-12 Music Chair for the Carmel Central School District, and before that the District Director of Music until the job was changed to Music Chair. She is currently the director of the High School Wind Ensemble as well as High School Concert Band. Meghan’s bands have received Gold and Gold with Distinction ratings at NYSSMA major’s festivals. Her middle school students have been selected for NYSBDA honors band. Meghan began the George Fischer Middle School Chamber Ensemble - Clarinet Choir and in its second year, was selected to perform at the New Jersey Music Educator’s Conference.
Meghan received her undergraduate degree in Music Education from Ithaca College, her Master’s degree in Music Education from Western Connecticut University, and an advanced Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Bank Street Teacher’s College.
Meghan stays active as an author for Music Education Publications. Her first article was published in The Instrumentalist magazine in March 2009, titled Balance Goals with Experience. Since 2009, additional articles have been published in the Instrumentalist Magazine, Music Educator’s Journal, NYSBDA's Band Stand, NYSSMA's School Music News, NJMEA's Tempo Magazine, School Band and Orchestra Magazine, as well as on many blogs including NAfME's educator's blog, Smart Music Blog, and Band Director's Talk Shop. In addition to her article contributions Meghan was a 2017 Grammy Music Educator Semifinalist.
As a clinician, Meghan has started presenting in 2005 at the Ithaca College MENC sponsored College Conference, and since has presented at the Connecticut Music Educator's Conference, New Jersey's Music Educator's Association State Conference, NYSSMA All-State conference and as well as at The International Midwest Clinic. Meghan currently works with local BOCES as a district consultant, to provide music collegial circles for music administrators, teacher leaders, as well as music teachers. She also serves one of her district's Professional Growth Coordinators, creating professional development days for the district staff.
Meghan is a contributor to the NAfME's online academy for Music Professional Development. Meghan served as president of Putnam County Music Educator’s Association (PCMEA) and has been an active host for NYSSMA events including Solo and Ensemble Festival, Area-All State, and NYSSMA Majors since 2006. Meghan served a full six year term as NYSSMA Zone 10 Representative.
Meghan has had an active Private Clarinet Studio since 2003. Her private students have been accepted into Area All-State, NYSBDA middle and high school honors band, NYSSMA All-State, NAfME sponsored All-Nationals Ensemble, as well as have been accepted to many of the country's top music schools.
Meghan has served as guest conductor for many Elementary, Jr. High School, as well as High School All County festivals, All-District Festivals, Area All State festivals across New York state, as well as for the Connecticut Music Educator's All-State Elementary Band. She is also a co-founder of the Arts on the Lake Summer Band Camp in Carmel, NY. Recently, Meghan accepted a new position as adjunct professor at Marist college teaching their Woodwind Ensemble as well as Woodwind private studio, as well as an adjunct professor online through Vandercook College of Music.
