Research

Megan's program of research focuses on holistic (mind, body, spirit) symptom management for individuals with cancer. Her research has examined the impact of spirituality on pain experiences in women with advanced breast cancer in the context of an integrative therapy intervention, the impact of spirituality on multiple occurring cancer-related symptoms, and the impact of spirituality on pain through possible mediation of pain-related catastrophizing.

This work has been supported by funding from the American Nurses Foundation (ANF), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) Foundation, and the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA).

Megan has extensive training and experience in quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods, and has conducted over 200 interviews with advanced cancer patients, as well as healthy adults. She has experience on multiple National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded studies in project management, multi-site coordination, participant recruitment, data collection, results reporting and many other areas.
