I have lived in rural Kansas for my whole life. When I was five-years-old, I moved from a house in Baileyville to the farm we now live in outside of Baileyville. My parents are happily married, and I am the oldest of five kids. I have three little sisters and the youngest of us is a brother. I would say I have a strong bond with my mom particularly. We have always been similar and though that has caused some fights, she has taught me a lot.
My ultimate career goal is to write my own books independently. Of course, that’s a long shot and a half, so I would happily settle for just being able to write for a living. It’s always been a dream of mine to be a writer, but as a kid, it seemed like such a far off fantasy. Now, it seems more attainable than ever. My plan is to go to college and continue to write as much as possible.
My school experience has been a lot of different things, including high school. A common theme is that people often assume that I’m a lot better a student than I actually am. I am often grouped in with the straight-A students when I have always been a straight-B student. I am involved in a lot of things, but those things are everything but sports. I am an avid scholars’ bowl fan, I am involved in all of the plays, and I have been in forensics all four years of high school. I am also a member of FCCLA. I mostly gravitated towards these things because I wanted to be a part of something and have fun more than I wanted to do well and be competitive in them. I am planning on going to college at the Univesity of Kansas (KU) next year. It has strong English and Journalism departments.
If I could visit anywhere in the world, I risk sounding basic, but it would have to be Paris. It’s a place for artists and creatives. I would play tourist, or be an actual tourist as it’s the most fun part. The food and culture of Paris is something I want to experience. If I won a million dollars, I would immediately just put aside $100,000 before anything else so I don’t have to work through college. My favorite quote is, “It always seems impossible until it is done.” by Nelson Mandela. I get down about my abilities as a writer a lot, simply put I am still a beginner and this inspires me to be creative.
Considering where I grew up and the family I have I think I have developed a rather unique disposition. I’m noticeably more liberal than most people who are raised in a small churchgoing town yet I’m quite a bit more conservative than most other flighty artistic types. I have always prided myself in being able to see both sides of a story and while I might not agree with everyone, I firmly believe that you shouldn’t tell someone that the way they feel is wrong.
