Practical information

The meeting will be organized at IIT Kharagpur from 1-3 July 2024. This will be an in-person physical meeting. We plan to start the meeting on the morning of 1st July. Therefore, it will be very helpful if you are here on the campus by 30th June night. Kindly plan your travel accordingly.

Local Hospitality

During your stay at IITKGP, we will cover the meals. 

Unfortunately, due to funding constraints we would be not be able to cover your accommodation expenses. 

However, we will reserve the rooms for this meeting at the Technology Guest House, which you can avail by paying INR 1500/per night for a single occupancy A.C. room. 

Moreover, it was collectively agreed during the first edition of the meeting that given the low costs involved, participants should be able to cover it, thereby reducing the financial burden in organizing this annual meeting.

Also, we would not be in a position to cover your travel expenses to IIT Kharagpur.

Accommodation: Technology Guest House (see below). Single occupancy room, unless otherwise specified.

Check-in: Kindly go to the reception, provide your details and mention that you are here for the Discussion Meeting on "Statistical Physics and Complex Systems". 

• Please carry an umbrella with you.

• Please carry your travel water bottle with you during your stay at IITKGP.

Food: For the invited participants we have arranged for Break Fast, Lunch and Dinner at the Technology Guest House. Having food at the guest house will be the most optimal and safer solution. In case, you do not intend to take meals at the guest house, kindly inform in advance. This will avoid wastage of food and money. 

Market and Medicines

Other Food Options

You have several options for your food at IITKGP. There are many restaurants and eateris on campus and countless tea-shops.

(i) Restaurants inside the campus. For example, Smartpind (thali is very reasonable and relatively fast!), PFC, Subway (in Nalanda complex), CCD,  several fast food corners at Tikka near the Clock tower. For more options you can google and check or don't hesitate to ask a student.

(ii) Restaurants outside the campus. We recommend FoodStudio, Chai Break [in Inda], Dominos [in Inda], Nasha The roof top lounge [in Inda] good view and ambience.

Travel

Kharagpur is well connected to major parts of the country by train. It is approximately 120 km to the west of Kolkata. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport, Kolkata (CCU) is the nearest airport. IIT Kharagpur campus is 140 km from the airport. Travel time by taxi ranges between 2 to 3 hours depending on the traffic conditions. 

You may take a direct train from your city/town to one of the stations in Kharagpur (Hijli Railway station and Kharagpur Railway station), if available. Otherwise, you can arrive at the Howrah Railway station (or Sealdah or Kolkata railway station) in Kolkata and from their either take any train which passes through Kharagpur or an app-based cab.  For additional information, we refer you the IIT KGP official link.

You can also come to the airport and take advantage of the “collective transport” arranged by us. 

We need (travel, food, presentation) information from you to prepare for your arrival and to prepare/structure the program of the meeting. Kindly write to us to receive a google form link to provide the requested details, if you have not already received one.

We will try to make arrangements for a “collective transport” from the Kolkata airport to the IIT KGP campus and back. We will try to arrange for at least two trips from the Kolkata airport to the IIT KGP campus depending on the "cluster" of flight arrival time of the participants. 

Note that the final trip schedule will be decided once we have data from a considerable number of participants. 

For the return journey, from the IIT KGP campus to the Kolkata airport, we will let you know of the arrangements later, as we are assuming that you will attend the full program.
