LAUGHTER IS MEDICINE
If anyone's in dire need of some laughter, it’s healthcare workers. And they’ll get a healthy dose of it from a performance of H.R. Britton’s “Medical Melodies.” Inspired by Alan Sherman and "Weird Al" Yankovic, Britton rewrites pop and rock tunes to reflect the humorous side of a career in healthcare.
Britton takes songs like Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” and turns them into songs like “50 Ways to Love Your Liver.” Or, John Lennon’s “Imagine” becomes a silly ode to medical imaging.
For over thirty years, H.R. Britton has been an actor, musician, comedic storyteller, and a host of variety shows. He has appeared in independent films, acted onstage in Minneapolis, and the East Coast, and has toured his comedic one-man shows internationally.
It is his career switch to healthcare reception that provided the impetus for this new venture. “I’ve got a surreal sense of humor, and I find it very gratifying to get nurses, doctors, receptionists and lab techs laughing. Working in healthcare’s not a walk in the park," says Britton. "Every laugh helps.”
Performances can be a up to an hour. Please contact MedicalMelodiesRx@gmail.com for details.
