Since the experiments have created a legacy of mistrust and fear of the medical system among people of color, many African Americans today are wary of participating in clinical trials or seeking medical treatment due to historical mistreatment. This mistrust has also led to a lack of diversity in medical research. Having people of different races and backgrounds is incredibly important during these trials. Not having diversity can impact the effectiveness of treatments for people of color. This can deepen the rift now as although the children of these people never experienced these horrors they will be affected because of them.
Due to the past experimentation many African Americas tend to go to only black physicians. However according to the Association of American Colleges only about 5% of active physicians are black. this makes it difficult for them to get the help they need.
Human experimentation has helped surgeons refine and improve surgical techniques, resulting in better outcomes for patients. It has also helped researchers better understand how diseases progress and how they can be treated, leading to new treatments and therapies. However, these benefits came at a great cost. One other example of benefits we got form this and are still benefiting from are the immortal cells of Henrietta Lacks. Her immortal cell line was even used to help with the covid 19 vaccine.
Codes of ethics were put in place in hopes of preventing human experimentation from happening again. although there were benefits the way we got to have these benefits were incredibly unethical and harmful.
