My name is Dehlila, mother to a toddler, a significant other, full-time employee and full-time student. I am from a very small town in Texas, and I mean small, population of 2,727 to be exact. Growing up with family and friends in the medical community, I grew an interest in the passion for science and health. Immediately after high school I was lucky enough to land a role as a claims representative for United Healthcare. I learned medical terminology, reimbursement methodologies, medical coding, and a lot about how insurance works for patients. It was a difficult job for a first job, it’s long hours, speed, constant learning and a ton of research. Being in claims taught me many skills sets that brought me to my current job, where I am more involved with patients within a clinical setting. I am now able to directly interact with patients with their health needs, questions, scheduling for tests and with our providers. This is only my beginning step into the medical community, I now have a goal to become a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Another reason I chose to become a part of this community is because of the opportunities you can strive for! Like any other job, there is training before you start and throughout your employment. This helps us to meet our expectations in health care, which are providing accurate information, showing empathy, teamwork and basic medical knowledge in the department in which you are located. The best part of being in the medical community is the rewarding part of your role, all health professionals value their patients. The science aspect goes a long way but the way we provide health care makes the experience better. When you or someone you care about is sick, injured, or seeking help, it is already a tough time. With great health care we can make a difference for those in need and help our future as a community providing the best health experience! And this is why I want to be more involved in my medical community.
