Speaker 1

Dr Gustavo Carneiro

Dr Gustavo Carneiro is a Professor of the School of Computer Science at the University of Adelaide, ARC Future Fellow, and the Director of Medical Machine Learning at the Australian Institute of Machine Learning. He joined the University of Adelaide as a senior lecturer in 2011, has become an associate professor in 2015 and a professor in 2019. His main research interest are in the fields of computer vision, medical image analysis and machine learning. In 2014 and 2019, he joined the Technical University of Munich as a visiting professor and a Humboldt fellow. From 2008 to 2011 Dr Carneiro was a Marie Curie IIF fellow and a visiting assistant professor at the Instituto Superior Tecnico (Lisbon, Portugal) within the Carnegie Mellon University-Portugal program (CMU-Portugal). From 2006 to 2008, Dr Carneiro was a research scientist at Siemens Corporate Research in Princeton, USA. In 2005, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia and at the University of California San Diego. Dr Carneiro received his PhD in computer science from the University of Toronto in 2004.

Dr Luping Zhou

Dr Luping Zhou is an Associate Professor in School of Electrical and Information Engineering, the University of Sydney. She obtained her PhD from Australian National University and got her post-doctoral training in University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr Zhou works on the interface of medical image analysis, machine learning, and computer vision, and has published 100+ research papers in these fields. Her current research is focused on medical image analysis with statistical graphical models and deep learning, as well as general visual recognition problems. She was a recipient of the prestigious ARC (Australian Research Council) DECRA award (Discovery Early Career Researcher Award). Dr Zhou is the Associate Editor of the journals IEEE Trans. on Medical Imaging (TMI) and Pattern Recognition. She is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Dr Jie Yang

Dr Jie Yang is a tenure-track professor at Zhejiang University. Previously, He was a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard University (Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital). He received his PhD degree from Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He was a visiting student at University of Oxford. Dr Yang’s research interests are mainly focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare/public health and natural language processing. He served as an area chair of EMNLP 2021, SPC of AMIA 2020 annual symposium, the program committee of top-tier conferences: ACL/AAAI/IJCAI/EMNLP/NAACL/AMIA/ICML/ICLR. He was selected as ACL 2018 outstanding reviewer, COLING 2018 outstanding reviewer. He won the COLING Best Paper Award at 2018, ACL Best demo Paper Award Nomination at 2018, and ISTD Best Dissertation Award. He is the developer of several popular NLP tools: NCRF++ and YEDDA, which attracted more than 4000 stars at GitHub.
