Explanation:
This project is focused on the Formal Operational stage create by Jean Piaget. The Formal Operational stage focuses on children ages 11 years and up. The activity that I had created is appropriate for children in this stage because I was able to break down this concept into a way that they will be able to comprehend. I took the time to gain more knowledge on what kinds of things children in this stage are in to, and then created an activity solely based on their likes and interests! A child in the Formal Operational stage will be able to internalize my explanation of this core concept quite easily because I explained the concept using terms and examples that are appropriate for their age!
Activity Idea:
After doing some research on what kinds of activities children in the Formal Operational stage are in to, I found an article that talks about individuals using TikTok as a way to advertise products! Since core concept #2 is all about formatting, I thought it would be a good idea for the children to create a video advertisement using TikTok or another form of technology! That way they can add some type of format to their video advertisement!
Foreseeable Difficulties:
The only difficulty that may occur is if a child does not have access to TikTok, or a form of technology to create their video advertisement. If that is the case, I suggest that the child asks for permission to use some sort of technology that belongs to a friend or parent/guardian. That way the child is not left out and can still participate in the activity!
Lesson Plan
Learning Objectives:
To gain a better understanding on different types of formats.
To understand what kind of messages are being sent through the type of formatting that is being used.
To gain more knowledge on how different types of formats are used to grab the viewers attention.
To create a video advertisement using one or more of the formats discussed in the video.
Project Materials:
Phone, computer, tablet (whichever works best for you)
TikTok, or some sort of app/camera that allows you to record.
Your favorite snack or drink.
Any kind of prop you may wish to put in your video advertisement.
A space for you to record your video advertisement.
Activity Procedure:
For this activity, you will be creating a video advertisement for your favorite food or drink. To create the video advertisement, you may use TikTok, or a device that has a camera that allows for you to record. Once you have the product that you are going to be advertising, you may begin to create your video advertisement. Be sure to include some type of format that was discussed in the core concept #2 video, in your advertisement! Remember, you are trying to sell this product to your viewers, so be creative! As mentioned in the video, you may also create a hashtag for your video advertisement. Once you have completed your video advertisement, you may share it with your friends and family!
Assessment:
For the assessment, you will be answering a few questions about what you have learned from this concept. The questions are linked below with a Google Doc and a pdf!
