Classroom Behavior

Disrupting class is a serious violation of University of Houston rules and regulations. The purpose of these class rules is to eliminate activities that are disruptive to the academic process. Most students consider these a common courtesy towards the instructor and fellow students. Failure to comply with a class rule will be viewed as a Disruption to the Academic Process. The penalty for classroom misbehavior is clearly outlined in the student handbook. (Students must understand these rules.) Below are some of the class rules:

• Treat the instructor, teaching assistant, grader, and fellow students respectfully.

• Put the cell phones on silent. Cell phones should not be answered inside the classroom.

• Texting is not allowed during class proceedings.

• No reading newspapers and magazines, solving crossword puzzles, etc., during lectures.

• No disruptive talking during lectures (except for questions to the instructor).

• No checking of e-mail or internet surfing in the class.

• No use of portable electronic music devices.

• No use of laptops without the approval of the instructor.
