Dva Suparna is a Mantra which is as follows: dva suparna sayuja sakhaya samanam vriksham parishasvajate | tayoranyah pippalam svadvattyanashnannanyo abhicakashiti ||.It means that on the same tree, two birds are sitting, one of which is eating fruits and another only looks around.
The verse also speaks ‘abhicakashiti’ which defines a bird who ‘looks on’ and witnesses all the worldly objects as well as all experiences on the mind such as happiness, compassion and anger.
Two birds in this Mantra are like mind and body and one bird is the consciousness or Supreme-Brahman. The mind looks around for pleasure without stability ultimately ends in sorrow. The one who looks at the Atman is free of all sorrows.
