MealMe ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application (the "App").By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Search History: We store your search queries locally on your device to provide search suggestions and improve your experience. You can clear this data at any time through the app settings.
App Preferences: We store your app settings (such as theme preferences, display settings, and filters) locally on your device.
Subscription Information: If you choose to subscribe to our premium service, Google Play handles the subscription purchase and billing. We store your subscription status locally on your device to enable premium features. Subscription purchase data (including purchase tokens, product IDs, and subscription status) is managed by Google Play Billing and is subject to Google's privacy policy. We do not collect or store your payment information.
Recipe URLs: If you choose to import a recipe from a URL, you may provide a website URL containing recipe information. When you use this feature, the App will fetch the recipe content from the external website. The website owner may see your IP address and a User-Agent string in their server logs, similar to when you visit a website in a browser. The recipe content is processed locally on your device and stored locally if you choose to save it. We do not store the URLs you provide or share them with third parties.
Device Information: We and our third-party service providers may collect information about your device, including device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers (such as Android Advertising ID), device identifiers, and device settings.
Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the App, including features used, time spent, app performance data, and crash reports.
Network Information: We collect information about your network connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data), including IP address, to provide content and ads (for free users only).
Approximate Location: Our advertising partners may collect your approximate location based on your IP address to provide relevant advertisements (for free users only). Premium subscribers do not see ads, so this data is not collected for premium users. We do not collect precise location data (GPS coordinates).
Subscription Status: We check your subscription status with Google Play Billing to determine which features you can access. This information is stored locally on your device and is verified with Google Play servers when needed.
App Usage Timestamp: We store the last time you opened the App locally on your device to provide meal reminder notifications. This timestamp is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or shared with third parties.
We use third-party services that collect, use, and share information. The following services may collect and process your data:
Google Play Billing: We use Google Play Billing to process subscription purchases for our premium service. When you subscribe, Google Play handles the payment transaction and stores your purchase information. We receive subscription status information from Google Play to enable premium features in the App. Google Play may collect and process payment information, purchase history, and subscription data according to their privacy policy. Google AdMob: We use Google AdMob to display advertisements in our App for free users only who are 13 years of age or older (COPPA compliance). Premium subscribers and users under 13 years of age do not see advertisements. AdMob collects and shares the following data with Google and advertising partners: device information (device model, OS version), Android Advertising ID (AAID), IP address (used to estimate approximate location), app interaction data, and advertising identifiers. This data is collected, used, and shared for advertising purposes, including personalized advertising, but only for free users who are 13 years of age or older. Premium subscribers' data and users under 13 years of age are not used for advertising purposes. You can opt-out of personalized ads through your device settings (Google Ads Settings on Android). YouTube API: We use YouTube API to display recipe videos. When you watch videos, YouTube may collect and process information according to their privacy policy, including video viewing data and device information. For more information, see YouTube Privacy Policy.
Notification Permission: We request notification permission (Android 13+) to send you meal reminder notifications. These notifications are generated locally on your device and do not require any network connection.
Photo and Video Permissions: We do NOT request or require access to your device's photos or videos. The App does not access your photo gallery or video library. All recipe images are provided within the App from our asset library, and recipe entry is done through manual text input only.
Meal Reminder Notifications: We use local notifications (processed entirely on your device) to remind you about making meals if you haven't opened the App for 3 days. These notifications are generated locally using Android's WorkManager and do not require any network connection or third-party services. No data is transmitted to external servers for this feature. You can disable notifications through your device settings at any time.
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
App Functionality: To provide and maintain our App, including displaying content, providing meal reminder notifications, and enabling manual recipe entry. Recipe images are provided within the App from our asset library. The App does not access your device's photos or videos.
Subscription Management: To verify your subscription status with Google Play Billing, enable premium features, and manage your subscription access. Subscription verification occurs through Google Play servers, but we only store subscription status locally on your device.
Personalization: To improve, personalize, and enhance your experience
Advertising: To display relevant and personalized advertisements through Google AdMob for free users only who are 13 years of age or older (COPPA compliance). Premium subscribers and users under 13 years of age do not see advertisements, and their data is not used for advertising purposes. If you subscribe to premium, ads will be removed from your experience.
Technical Support: To detect, prevent, and address technical issues and crashes
Recipe Import: To fetch and import recipe content from external websites when you provide a recipe URL. The recipe content is fetched from the external website, processed locally on your device, and stored locally if you choose to save it. The external website may see your IP address and User-Agent string in their server logs, similar to when you visit a website in a browser.
Note: We removed analytics services (Firebase Analytics) to improve your privacy. We no longer collect analytics data through third-party services.Premium Subscription: Our App offers a premium subscription service (pricing set in Google Play Console, with a 3-day free trial for both monthly and yearly subscriptions) that provides access to additional features including nutrition facts, recipe management, grocery lists, favorites, search, meal planning, and an ad-free experience. Subscription purchases are processed through Google Play Billing, and subscription status is verified with Google Play servers. Premium subscribers do not see advertisements, and their data is not used for advertising purposes. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled. Cancel anytime in Google Play settings.
We share your information with the following categories of third parties:
Google Play: We share subscription status information with Google Play Billing to verify your premium subscription and enable premium features. Local Storage: Search history, app preferences, app usage timestamps (for meal reminders), grocery lists (including saved grocery lists), favorite recipes, recipe data (including cooking time, difficulty, and nutrition information), and subscription status are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.

Google ML Kit may collect usage statistics and crash logs in accordance with Google's privacy policy, but your images are not stored by Google.
Data Retention: Locally stored data (search history, preferences, usage timestamps, grocery lists including saved lists, favorites, recipe data including cooking time and difficulty, and subscription status) is automatically deleted after 90 days of inactivity (no app usage). You can also delete this data at any time by clearing it through the App settings or by uninstalling the App. Images are not stored by us. Subscription purchase data is retained by Google Play according to their policies. Data stored by third-party services is retained according to their policies (typically 14-26 months for advertising data, but this does not apply to premium subscribers).
Security: We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information. Data transmitted to third-party services is encrypted in transit. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
Data Encryption: Data transmitted to third-party services is encrypted using industry-standard encryption protocols (HTTPS/TLS).
You have the following rights regarding your information:
Clear Search History: You can clear your search history at any time through the App settings.
Disable Notifications: You can disable meal reminder notifications at any time through your device settings: Settings > Apps > MealMe > Notifications.
Manage Subscription: You can manage your premium subscription, including canceling or changing your subscription plan, through Google Play Store: Play Store > Menu > Subscriptions. You can also cancel your subscription at any time, and you will continue to have access to premium features until the end of your current billing period. Free trial users can cancel during the trial period without being charged.
Opt-Out of Personalized Ads: Free users who are 13 years of age or older can opt-out of personalized ads through their device settings: Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization (Android). You can also reset your Android Advertising ID in your device settings. Premium subscribers and users under 13 years of age do not see advertisements, so this setting does not apply to them.
Access Your Data: You can request access to data collected about you by emailing us at yahlamobile1983@gmail.com or by contacting us through the Google Play Store developer contact information. For subscription purchase data, you can access this information through your Google Play account.
Delete Your Data: Your locally stored data (including app usage timestamps for meal reminders, grocery lists including saved lists, favorites, recipe data including cooking time and difficulty, and subscription status) is automatically deleted after 90 days of inactivity (no app usage). You can also delete your data immediately by uninstalling the App or by clearing data through the App settings. Images are not stored by us. Subscription purchase data is managed by Google Play and can be accessed through your Google Play account. Note that data stored by third-party services (such as Google AdMob) may be retained according to their policies, but you can request deletion directly from those services.
Data Portability: You can request a copy of your data in a portable format by emailing us at yahlamobile1983@gmail.com or by contacting us through the Google Play Store developer contact information. For subscription purchase data, you can access this information through your Google Play account.
Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw consent for data processing at any time by uninstalling the App or adjusting your device settings. You can cancel your subscription at any time through Google Play Store.
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom: You have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to object to processing, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.For users in California: You have additional rights under CCPA, including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information, but our advertising partners may use data for advertising).
Our App is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA). In compliance with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), we do not display advertisements to users under 13 years of age. If a user's age is not provided or is under 13, advertisements will not be shown. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at yahlamobile1983@gmail.com so we can delete such information immediately.
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your country. By using the App, you consent to such transfers. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place, including reliance on Standard Contractual Clauses and adequacy decisions where applicable.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons.
