My research has focused around several topics, including active learning, peer recognition, student collaboration, and epistemic framing. In conducting these projects, I have used a broad range of both quantitative (social network analysis, mixture modeling, hierarchical linear modeling, meta-analysis, and simple hypothesis testing) and qualitative (semi-structured interviews, classroom observation, content analysis, and video analysis) research methods. I have also collected and managed several large, multi-institutional datasets, representing thousands of students at over 35 colleges and universities. One of my favorite parts about research has been mentoring undergraduate and graduate students -- many of them are authors on the papers listed below!
