"Hello, I'm Sophie Stewart, the founder of Meadow and Oak.
My professional background is rooted in science and education, holding a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from Newcastle University and a PGCE in Secondary Science. Over a decade was spent in secondary education, including serving as Head of Science and Deputy Head of Sixth Form, where I taught Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, and successfully led a department of 12 staff.
More recently, I transitioned into high-level university administration, providing essential support for research and technology. Since December 2022, I have been the Programme Manager for the interdisciplinary FixOurFood initiative at the University of York.
This deep-seated passion for the natural world and community well-being inspired the creation of Meadow and Oak. Currently undertaking the Level 3 Forest School Leader Qualification, I launched this initiative in summer 2025 to connect all ages with their local environment. We offer a diverse range of activities—including Forest School sessions, environmental stewardship, ecology exploration, and craft - all designed to support and explore nature."
