MOTIVATION - NEED FOR FORMABILITY IMPROVEMENT
MOTIVATION - NEED FOR FORMABILITY IMPROVEMENT
Light weighting of Automotive body structure - one of the most important objectives in Automotive OEM industry.
Improves Fuel economy
Reduces Green house gas emissions.
This leads to preference of High strength low weight materials like AHSS, Al alloys, Mg Alloys, Ti alloys and Polymer composites over conventional automotive grade steels like IF steels, Low carbon steel, HSLA etc.
Problems faced - poor formability at room temperature, considerable springback due to high stiffness and strength.
Potential Solution – Non Conventional Forming Methods like Servo Press Forming.
BIW MATERIALS
OBJECTIVES
Benchmark simulations for testing user subroutines with existing library models.
Study of Stress relaxation as mechanism for formability improvement in servo press forming as compared to conventional press forming.
Development of an internal variable based constitutive model in FEA through user subroutines that can comprehensively describe the material behaviour during strain hardening and stress relaxation phenomenon that takes place in a typical Servo Press forming cycle.
The major outcomes of this research would be the methodology to improve room temperature formability of high strength and lightweight materials for automobile and defense applications.
