I am an Assistant Professor of Finance in the Department of Finance and Business Law at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. I hold a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, an M.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a B.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Dhaka.
My research focuses on empirical corporate finance. I study the determinants and mechanisms through which corporate executives shape firm policies, with work spanning corporate misconduct, labor investment efficiency, debt contracting and credit risk, innovation, corporate social responsibility, and firm responses to climate, policy, and biodiversity risk. A second strand applies machine learning, natural language processing, and large language models to financial disclosures and market data. My work has appeared in the Journal of Corporate Finance, the International Review of Financial Analysis, and Finance Research Letters.
My teaching connects finance theory to the decisions firms actually make: students work with real firm data and case analysis, and class time goes to solving problems rather than watching them solved. I am integrating generative-AI tools into my courses so students learn both what these tools do well and where they fail.
