I am Md Shakhawat Hossain a American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellow and PhD Candidate in Biomedical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. I also hold a cross-disciplinary neural engineering (NIH T32) training fellowship from the Center for Neural Engineering at Penn State.

My research explores the impact of sleep on brain hemodynamics, waste clearance, and neurodegenerative diseases. A central focus of my research lies in understanding how sleep-influenced hemodynamic changes influence the glymphatic system's function in removing toxic substances from the brain. To achieve this objective, I use cutting-edge microscopy and biosensing techniques to study the regulation of cerebral blood flow by neuromodulatory systems across various states of arousal. By unraveling the mechanisms of neuromodulation and blood flow, my research aims to uncover novel insights into preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.
