Welcome to my website. I am Md Ohiul Islam, a lecturer at University of Vermont. I previously worked as a postdoctoral instructor at the University of Nevada, Reno, and as a lecturer at SUNY Oneonta. I am originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. After completing my bachelor's and master's degrees in economics at the University of Dhaka, I earned a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from Western Michigan University. As an economist, my true passion lies in telling compelling stories by using all kinds of data and finding relationships among various economic factors.
I am interested in applied economic research in different areas such as economic development, health and education, labor market dynamics, and migration. Specifically, my research has focused on several key areas: demographic differences in K-12 educational outcomes within the U.S., the impact of environmental factors like extreme heat and river pollution on health and education in developing countries, wage dynamics among STEM field workers, and the effects of migration on human capital development. In the near future, I intend to explore education policy design and the evaluation of policy impact.
