Novofumigatonin 1 and fumigatonin 2 are fungal meroterpenoids derived from 3,5-dimethylorsenillic acid having unique orthoester moieties. Despite huge number of such meroterpenoids in nature, the chemical synthesis have not been reported. In this proposal, I have proposed a viable synthetic route to achieve the total synthesis of 1 and 2. The orthoester formation can be achieved by oxidative cleavage of the olefin and base mediated cascade cyclization.
