Ms. Houston will be starting her 7th year at McDonald, and is excited to work with your students, and continue a tradition of excellence!
She is going in to her 14th year of teaching having taught in Houston ISD and San Antonio ISD prior to coming to McDonald in 2019. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University where she received her Bachelor of Music in 2009, and her Master of Arts in Music Education in 2011. During her time there she served under the batons of Dr. Jeff Jacobsen and Dr. Gene Moon, and studied cello with Dr. Evgeni Raychev. She actively clinics in Katy ISD, the Houston area, and across the state for fellow colleagues helping their orchestras reach their highest levels of performance. She even received the privilege of conducting the Middle School Sinfonia Orchestra for Region 11 during the 2017-2018 school year.
Outside of school, Ms. Houston has helped develop young players through teaching private lessons actively for the past 12 years. She holds active memberships in Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Orchestra Directors Association. She currently serves as the Secretary for the Orchestra Division of Region 23 which covers Katy ISD, Alief ISD, and Houston ISD.
Though work obligations keep her busy, she still makes time to show tons of love to her biggest fan Hazel, her 13 year old Fox Terrier/Wired Hair mix. She also enjoys baking and crocheting in her free time!
