NEW BLIND AND LOW VISION HELPDESK FOR TRANSITION

New Blind and Low Vision Helpdesk for Transition

What is the Helpdesk?

This school year certainly has some interesting challenges, from figuring out Zoom to developing remote advocacy skills. The transition Helpdesk is here with encouragement and resources.

The transition Helpdesk is geared towards blind and low vision youth and their families and educational supports to assist them with the wide array of questions and challenges that comes with being a student. The Helpdesk is available by phone, email, and Facebook to answer questions and provide advice and assistance.

Meet our Team!

We invite educators to join us for our virtual open house on Wednesday October 28. Attendees to this meeting will have an opportunity to learn more about the project and meet our team. Feel free to come with questions and topics to discuss!

People who reach out to the Helpdesk can feel confident that questions will be answered by individuals with real-world experience. Carlton Walker is the mother of a blind transition-aged child, a former TVI, and an attorney and expert advocate for blind and low vision students. Hindley Williams is a blind staff member at The IMAGE Center of Maryland, and is a graduate from Baltimore County Public Schools. This unique project is being coordinated through The IMAGE Center of Maryland, a center for independent living in Towson, and is made possible through a grant from the Maryland Department of Education. Our team has a wide variety of connections in the blindness and low vision field, so if they do not know the answers, they will be sure to connect with someone who does to get folks the information they need to succeed.

Meet Carlton, Hindley, and other collaborators at our Zoom open house on Wednesday October 28 at 4PM. The Zoom Information is as follows:
