The MDA Experience

MDA is an acting school training actors of all ages established in 2019. MDA Acting operates in the Edinburg-McAllen area and most recently has expanded to Brownsville, Texas.

Founded by Maria Dolores Alvardo and Luis P. Reyes, who have been in the film and theater industry since 2012, in the capacity of performance, documentary film, theater, dance, improv, directing, and producing.

MDA Instructors

Maria D. Alvarado

Maria D. Alvarado graduated from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a BA in Theatre Performance. While in the university she learned acting techniques and skills; including improvisation, stage combat, and theatrical production. She has performed and directed at international theatre festivals including the New Orleans Fringe Festival and The New York City Fringe. She has over six years of experience coaching actors of all ages. She is now the owner and acting coach at MDA Acting.

Luis P. Reyes

Luis P. Reyes graduated from the University of Texas of Rio Grande Valley with a BA in Theater and Film Production. Before graduating, Luis was already working in the film industry as a Unit Producer and Unit Director for feature documentaries such as "American Dream" from the Executive Producers that brought you "Black Fish" (2013). After graduating, Luis went on to produce other documentaries and films, which were screened at the Edinburg Imax Theater during the State of the City Address. He has also produced projects for non-profit organizations, as well as political campaigns. Most recently, Luis worked on a documentary project for the Texas Tribune and Time Magazine that was nominated for the Peabody Award. Luis now coaches actors from the perspective of a film director and teaches film classes at MDA.
