2nd annual Monterey County Youth Media Project

This program is modeled after the Mosaic High School Journalism Workshop, founded by San Jose Mercury News reporter Joe Rodriguez (now retired) and colleagues in 1993 where a diverse crop of high school students from Northern California (primarily the San Francisco Bay Area to Monterey County) would take part in a two-week intensive residential journalism training session on the campus of San Jose State University learning the basics of newspaper reporting and publication.

Now with the support of the California Endowment, we present the second annual Monterey County Youth Media Project. We offer high school students from all over Monterey County a close-up, hands-on training in professional journalism directed by Marcos Cabrera, former Mosaic Director, Media Production teacher at Millennium Charter High School and a veteran journalist. He is an alumnus of Mosaic’s first class along and will work with a team of professional journalists, including former Monterey Herald reporter and award-winning novelist Claudia Melendez, award-winning author and journalist Julia Reynolds, award-winning journalist Mary Duan & award-winning journalist and author Joe Livernois.
