PRSSA
The Public Relations Student Society of America is an organization for students interested in public relations and communications. Students from all majors are welcome to become members.
Reality Check
Reality Check seeks to empower and educate SHSU students on networking and post-graduate life. Their goal is to educate SHSU students on how to successfully navigate through the professional world.
Film Coven
Film Coven works to give students a platform to show off their content. The main focus is on creating comedy, but short films, podcasts, streaming, and more are encouraged
The Houstonian
The Houstonian is an MCOM Practicum class/student-driven on-campus newspaper. Students report news, draft opinion pieces, cover SHSU sporting events, and pen advice columns. The Houstonian's goal is to give students hands-on experience in real-world journalism.
Sports Media Minor
The Sports Media Minor will enhance your preparation for careers that involve media production or sports administration, and for graduate programs in digital media or sports management. For careers that range from coaching to highlight editor in television, and from youth minister to online journalism, the sports media minor will develop your expertise in the way that sports are organized and shared today.
Priority One Practicum
The Priority One Practicum will provide the basis for students to create a functioning public relations entity. The goal is to establish an entity that identifies clients, creates public relations plans in their behalf and delivers those plans to them via presentation.
Heatwave Practicum
The Heatwave Practicum is a juried film and media festival for Sam Houston State University students to showcase their creative talents in film, public relations, advertising, journalism, emerging media, and broadcast production excellence.
LGBTQ+ Artists
The LGBTQ+ Artists Organization is for for LGBTQ+ student artists at Sam Houston State University.
Society of Professional Journalists
The Society of Professional Journalists is the nation’s most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior. Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, SPJ promotes the free flow of information vital to a well-informed citizenry through the daily work of its roughly 6,000 members; works to inspire and educate current and future journalists through professional development; and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press through its advocacy efforts.
