Golden Thread Fairytale Players is excited to launch its 2023 in-person tour featuring Nasrudin's Magnificent Journey to Samarkand, a visually colorful performance adapted from folktales centered around Nasrudin, a wise fool renowned in Central Asia, Turkey, Iran, and the Arab world. The performance follows Nasrudin and his faithful donkey as they travel through caravansaries in Konya and Damascus before arriving at Samarkand, the center of arts and crafts on the ancient Silk Road.
Performances ideal for children aged 5–15. The 50-minute presentation includes 30-minute performance with audience participation, and a 20-minute Q&A with the artists. Convenient study guides and activities for grades K-5 which incorporate California Educational Standards for Performing Arts, History, Social Studies, and Language Arts are available to enhance the performance.

Dr. Amir Whitaker Keynote Address
Dr. Amir Whitaker, educator, and civil rights lawyer, delivered a keynote address focused on his transformative journey through incarceration, expulsion, community college, undergraduate education, law school, and travel abroad. His story generated reflection and discussion about our education systems and how we can best serve a diverse student body and advance equity. The presentation included discussions around local data from Marin County and the state.
