This course reviews the field of positive psychology, which is the study of happiness and fulfillment. Topics include personal growth, meaning, hedonic and eudaimonic approaches to well-being, gratitude, awe, flow states, mindfulness and meditation. Developed with assistance from Dr. Will Ryan, I structure the course around Self-Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000), providing opportunities for students to connect with one another through class discussions (relatedness), to select from various assignments that best suit their unique abilities (autonomy), and to develop expertise on their topics of interest throughout the span of the course. (competence).
