Grades

How I will compute your grade

If you do not have lab, I will compute your final grade using the following weighted average:

Lecture Final Grade = (Top Exam + Middle Exam)/2

where the top and middle exams are the top two exam amongst Exam I, Exam II, and the Final Exam. The Activities and homework assignments are not explicitly part of the final grade, but are part of the grade in the sense that the exams directly incorporate this material. If you do have lab, your final grade will consist of 80% lecture and 20% lab. The Exam grades are released after the completion of the exam period.

Computing your grade

To compute your grade at any point in the semester, divide the Lecture Final Grade by the fraction of the total possible points that have already been decided. For example, suppose that you've just taken Exam II and you would like to compute your current grade. To determine your current grade, just average your two exams:

(EI + EII)/2.

If you have questions about your grade

I will calculate your grade exactly as described here, and so you can determine where you stand in the course at any point. If you have any questions, please come to my office hours; these are given on the calendar.
