Although limited, my experience in scholastic media has definitely changed my perspective of the goals I wish to pursue in the future.
Since elementary school, I found drawing and creating art to be a relaxing pastime which eventually progressed into my student career as a visual artist. However, over the past 7 years, I've used visual arts as an academic means to sustain my major. I felt that I was putting so much love and effort into visual art, but there was no beneficial gain besides expediting my academics, therefore serving as trivial as a future career option despite the amount of time I dedicated to it. This mindset persisted throughout my freshman and sophomore year, and it motivated me into pursuing and incorporating visual arts into other forms of media, which lead to my involvement with The Muse as a design staffer.
Now that I've exposed myself to graphic design and digital art that finally served a purpose outside of academics, it suddenly reignited the spark that made me love art to begin with. Additionally, my experiences with scholastic media also changed my overall character by forcing me to adapt into a more extroverted character that taught me to contribute and work within a team, to work towards strict deadlines, how to market, and to take criticism from others that lead to improvements in my work.
