Mr. McGuire's Lab

I was born and raised in Wichita, where I still live today. I graduated from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School, and attended Newman University, where I earned Bachelors degrees in History (minor Journalism), and Secondary Education. I also attended Emporia State University where I earned three Masters degrees in Education: Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, and Instructional Design and Technology. This will be my 22nd year as a teacher, and I’ve taught middle school and high school, with subjects including Social Studies (History, Government, Geography), English Language Arts, and Science. When I do have free time, I enjoy enjoy crosswords, sketching, and relaxing with a good classic TV show.  I am glad to be #partofthepride!

Laptop & Electronic Devices

• Laptops: Bring your laptop charged and ready every day; an uncharged device may be considered a technology violation. Charging requires prior permission. Keep laptops off and put away until instructed.

• Laptops are learning tools. Non-class use or inappropriate use is a school technology-policy violation.

• Outside electronic devices—including phones, music players, smartwatches, and earbuds—are prohibited during the school day. Wired headphones are not permitted during class unless an accommodation is needed.

• Backpacks and book bags are not permitted per school policy.

Dress Code & Lab Safety

• Follow the school’s dress code and student handbook: Student Handbook

• Lab days will be announced in advance. Dress appropriately for standard laboratory safety requirements.

Academic Honesty

• All submitted work must be your own.

• Cheating or plagiarism results in zero credit, parent/guardian contact, and possible immediate office referral. Additional disciplinary action may be assigned by the instructor or administration.

Tardies

• You are tardy if you are not in the classroom when the bell rings. Class begins at the bell, and you should be in the room and starting the assigned work.

• Tardiness may result in disciplinary action unless you have an appropriate pass. Consequences may include loss of participation points, reduced passing time, after-school detention or administrative referral according to school policy.

Room & Laboratory Expectations

• Tables, chairs, and laboratory stations remain as arranged unless instructed otherwise. Additional chairs require permission.

• The back laboratory area, lab surfaces, and floor beneath lab surfaces are not for sitting, standing, lying down, or congregating.

• During labs, remain at your assigned station unless instructed otherwise.

• Cabinets and drawers are off limits unless instructed. Open cabinet spaces are not for trash or storage.

• The eyewash and safety shower are for emergencies only; misuse will result in an immediate office referral.

• Teacher approval is required before leaving the room. Do not assume a pass will be approved, including for bathroom or locker access, and remain in the room until dismissed.

• At the end of class, remain in your seat until the bell rings. 

Absences

• When an absence is known in advance, including school activities, make every effort to complete work before the absence.

• Students are responsible for making up missed work. Excused absences receive the make-up time allowed by school policy, including for proctored exams and note checks.

Food & Drink

• No food is permitted without prior authorization due to laboratory safety concerns.

• Drinks must have a tightly sealed or twist-top lid. Cans, fountain drinks, and open containers are not permitted, and drinks are not allowed in the laboratory area.

Respect & Language

• Bullying is never tolerated and will be addressed according to school policy.

• Use language that supports a respectful learning environment. Occasional slips happen, but repeated foul language, particularly directed at classmates or the instructor, will not be tolerated.

• Slurs of any kind are subject to disciplinary action and have no place in the classroom.

1.     Be in class ON TIME.

2.     Submit any work due.

3.     Silence and put your phone away.

4.     Be ready to learn.

a.      Have your laptop on and ready to go.

5.    Have your notebook ready to go, with writing utensils.

6.    Take note of the daily objective and plan.

7.    Pay attention to the directions or lecture.

8.    Use your work time appropriately.

9.    In Lab time, adhere to ALL SAFETY RULES AND DIRECTIONS!

10.  Note the homework assignment.

11.  Remain seated unless directed to do otherwise until the bell rings at the end of class.
