I was born and raised in Wichita, where I still live today. I graduated from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School, and attended Newman University, where I earned Bachelors degrees in History (minor Journalism), and Secondary Education. I also attended Emporia State University where I earned three Masters degrees in Education: Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, and Instructional Design and Technology. I am currently working on a Doctorate in Education. This will be my 20th year as a teacher, and I’ve taught middle school and high school, with subjects including Social Studies (History, Government, Geography), English Language Arts, and Science. When I do have free time, I enjoy gaming (head’s up – I am the eSports coach here, too), even if it is just Cities: Skylines! I also enjoy crosswords, sketching, and relaxing with a good classic TV show. I am glad to be #partofthepride!
Electronic Devices
The possession or use of outside electronic devices during the school day is prohibited. This includes music players, smartwatches, and earbuds of any kind.
As for cell phones, per school policy, phones MUST be silenced or preferably off and in your bag or pocket. If you have a locker, they should really be left there. If your phone is out at any time in class, you will be reported to the office, and must stop in there after class ends. Refusal to do so will result in defiance or failure to comply, and you will be sent to the office. Ask yourself – is it worth it just to watch TikTok or play a game instead of listening in class? The answer is NO.
Academic Honesty
ALL WORK SUBMITTED FOR A GRADE MUST BE YOUR OWN.
Laptop Use
It is your responsibility to come to class everyday with your laptop ready to go and charged. Charging devices in-class should not be an expected practice and may only be done if permission is given by the teacher. Ask, don’t act. As well, you should have earphones or earbuds for independent work time. Use of your device for non-class related activities will be considered a violation of school policy. It is a learning tool, not your private entertainment source. Inappropriate use of your laptop will result in loss of said laptop.
Tardy Policy
A tardy will be defined as not being in the classroom when the bell rings. Expect the class to start when the bell rings. You are expected to be in the classroom and beginning daily work when the bell rings.
Absences
When a student is aware of an absence prior to it occurring (including school-related activities), every effort should be made to complete all work before the absence occurs. The student will be responsible for making up missed work.
Food and Drink
Food and drinks in a laboratory setting present a significant safety hazard. Food and drinks may be permitted in the desk seating area of the classroom only. Food and drinks may never be taken into the lab area without the teacher’s permission.
Respect and Language
Respect is crucial for a strong and healthy learning environment. Bullying will never be tolerated, per school policy. This extends to the word choices we make. Things sometimes slip out that are inappropriate, but regular use of foul language, especially directed at others or the teacher, will not be tolerated. Slurs, of any type, are subject to disciplinary action. There is no reason they should be used, let alone in a school setting.
