Matthieu Fortin-Deschênes received his PhD in engineering physics from Polytechnique Montreal, where he developed synthesis processes for new elemental two-dimensional materials and studied their electronic properties with ab initio simulation methods. He received the award for the best PhD thesis in science and engineering at University of Montreal and Polytechnique Montreal in 2020. He then did a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University where he developed growth methods for quantum moiré materials. He joined PINQ^2 in 2023 as product owner and now develops applications of quantum computing and deep learning to materials science and chemistry.
