You’ve been invited to participate in the BLS Teach-Back exercise and Panel Interview.
Now what?
Both will be administered at the Training Academy on the same day for each respective applicant. With time being allotted between the exercise and interview. You should expect to have additional communication along with the invitation that further outlines logistics for the day.
Note: feedback on your performance will not be offered on this day. If requested, it will be provided to you via email.
In general, this is what you can expect:
BLS Teach-Back
The BLS Teach-Back is a straight-forward exercise in which you will teach a small audience of 3-5 individuals. You should consider these "students" to be brand-new EMTs. Your goal; is to familiarize your audience with all aspects of a BLS patient assessment within a fifteen (15) minute timeframe.
You should strive to provide your students with a broad overview of a BLS assessment. Be careful not to limit your presentation to any specific patient groups. Additionally, several teaching aides will be at your disposal; such as a dry-erase board and an adult manikin.
Panel Interview
The Panel Interview will follow the Teach-Back exercise and consist of 3-5 Program stakeholders. The applicant will be provided with scripted questions and fifteen (15) minutes in which to formulate responses. Once the interview begins, there will also be additional questions. Both scripted and spontaneous.
