The Department of Political Science, Manikchak College was formed in 2015 with a General course. In 2018 the department started offering Political Science Honours. The departmental faculty at present offer Honours and General courses on Political Science as per the CBCS Syllabi introduced by University of Gour Banga in 2019-20 and also Syllabi of NEP-2020. The dedication of the students and faculty members have ensured the department’s continued run of prominence within the institution and the end semester examinations conducted by University of Gour Banga.

The faculty members focus on creating an interactive atmosphere in the classroom through using ICT and sharing study materials through Whatsapp, Email, Hard Copy etc. Students are encouraged to share their views during the discussion sessions and update faculty members about their subsequent progress on the syllabus. Group activities are recurrently organized by the department to nourish teamwork and collaborative work methods in students. Along with lectures by departmental faculty members; lectures from esteemed faculty members and subject experts from the surrounding colleges and institutions across the country. The department has also organized virtual lectures by National and international faculty members for familiarizing the students to various aspects of the CBCS syllabus.

Apart from academic activities the department organizes extra-curricular activities in regular intervals. Faculty members of the department function as guides but the motto of the department is to bring out the underlying quality and potential in students. Additionally, the students are introduced to library working through the department’s individual library. The department looks forward to strengthening the overall output.
