McCarthy Drama Club is an after school club whose mission is to allow students the creative opportunity to express themselves in a safe and fun way. Students are introduced to the art of acting in order to develop an appreciation of the art and as a tool for self-realization. The club offers participants the chance to experience the excitement and rewards of theater arts while developing poise, social skills, confidence and the ability to work with others.
Our Annual Show is announced right before the Chelmsford Theater Guild's end-of-year banquet (usually in May) and Auditions are held at the start of the following school year (near the end of September). Rehearsals and Backstage activities run October through January, and the show usually opens the first weekend of February for 3 performances. It is open to all our 7th & 8th grade students, and we welcome students of all acting, singing and dancing ability to join us in creating a magical performance! In partnership with the McCarthy Backstage Club, we bring to life a fully licensed production for a community audience of up to 600 at each performance.
Under the Direction of Jodi Richardson (Musical Director) , and a dedicated group of local High School Volunteers, our middle schoolers put on high-quality productions of popular musicals year after year. Our Parent Volunteers support them in their work on every aspect of the production, from organization & coaching, to getting down and dirty in set building and creation.
