Last week I was supported by a McAfee agent to scan for viruses on my PC. This was done by a remote access to my laptop. It all went so fast and I followed the instructions of the McAfee agent. No viruses were found and the remote access was terminated, I remember that I clicked on some kind of 'end of session' button. However, how can I check that this remote access is permanently ended? I asked the agent and he confirmed that the session was ended, but how can I check this on my laptop (windows 10)? The agent informed me that he used Logmein to get access to my laptop. Do I need to remove any Logmein software after the session? It feels unsafe that a remote connection was made so easily and I want to make sure this remote connection cannot be used again. The strange thing to me is that McAfee does not give any guidance on this topic on their website.

McAfee agents use LogMeIn to get the remote access of the computer. This happens via a simple download of an exe file on the machine. When the file is run and user allows the permission, the agents can access the computer. Please note that there is no software thats gets installed on the computer. The remote session is established by an applet with a one time code and it can be used only once.

So, I've been trying to open Mcafee agent(BT Netprotect plus) for a while, but it never really opens. Using Process Explorer, I can see that McUICnt.exe is running, but when I try to run BT Netprotect Plus, in Process Manager, it just doesn't open. It's not a matter of waiting, because again looking at Process Explorer, mcagent.exe opens, with a descendant process of McUICnt.exe again, but mcagent quickly closes about a second after opening. This explanation may be a bit hard to understand, so here is a video showing exactly what happens:

McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) and the McAfee Agent work in concert with each other to provide a single management and single agent for your entire environment. The McAfee Agent handles all communication to and from ePO.

McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator and the McAfee Agent (MA), work in concert with each other to provide a single management and single agent for your entire environment. The McAfee Agent handles all communication to and from ePO. When you are ready to deploy products to your environment, like VirusScan Enterprise or Host Intrusion Prevention, you will use ePO and MA to handle the deployment and updating. You do not need to physically touch every host to deploy products. Everything can be completed, over the network, from ePO.

McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) and the McAfee Agent work in concert with each other to provide a single management and single agent for your entire environment. The McAfee Agent handles all communication to and from ePO.tag_hash_107

I have remoted into these machines manually and checked the version numbers for these Products (VSE, Policy Auditor, HIPS, DLP, etc.) and they all list the most up-to-date information for those products, (example, HIPS 8.0.0.2239). I then open up the McAfee Agent Status Monitor Console and select "Collect and Send Props", "Send Events", "Check New Policies" and "Enforce Policies" to ensure that the agent is able to communicate with the ePO server without throwing out any error messages. Everything seems to register fine. When I log back into ePO and check the computer name in System Tree, the computer still shows an outdated version of that product number (HIPS 8.0.0.2151, for example).

Ensure you can check the agent log either through the web interface on ePO or by RDPing into the affected asset(s). You need to watch the progress being made on the agent to ensure that a "failure" state is not being reported. I.e. "(HIPS install tag) has been applied and will be updated at(scheduled time)." followed closely behind by "Agent failed to update (HIPS version number)"

Remove any Install or Uninstall tags that might be currently applied to the affected machine(s). Ensure that the agent reports that the tags have been removed. If it does not report this, there could be a communication problem between the agent and the server that can be fixed by manually uninstalling the McAfee Agent: frminst.exe /forceuninstall

Tag the affected machines with an uninstall tag for the specific product (HIPS or Policy Auditor, for example). Again, ensure the agent reports the uninstall tag has been applied and will be performed on the next update.

Watch the agent log. After a minute or two you should see activity being reported back. If this doesn't happen, it should be safe to assume there is a problem with the agent or the machine is having network connectivity problems.

If you are lucky, the agent should register that the tag has been applied and the product has been successfully installed. Refresh ePO and it should now list having that product installed. If it does not, wait a few minutes and refresh ePO again. If it's still not listed, do steps 1-11 again until it changes.

To remove Trellix Agent, run the sudo/Library/McAfee/agent/scripts/uninstall.sh command. This command is useful only when you uninstall all other Skyhigh Security products that are installed on your system.

I had WSL installed on my PC, so I navigated to my C: drive (cd /mnt/c) and then executed find ./ | grep -i mcafee. This process will likely take a bit of time, but it should reveal the location of all of the McAfee-named files on your C: drive. If you installed McAfee on your other drives, they should be accessible within the /mnt/ directory within WSL. I'm sure there's a way to do it natively in PS/cmd, but I couldn't be bothered.

Is there any way to deploy old version of McAfee agents to a group of computers using Patch Manager where deployment from EPO server is not an option? Or someone please advise any other option e.g logon scripts.

Thanks. I ended up deploying the old agents from the EPO, which works for 90% of the affected machines and manually installed on the remaining 10%. How I followed your recommendation to deploy other custom packages to the same group of computers.

When an endpoint is not managed by McAfee ePO server, PPS can take action to report the endpoint details to McAfee ePO server. Reported endpoint will be in "Unmanaged" state in McAfee ePO server, since McAfee agent is not installed on the endpoint. Admin has to configure a custom query on McAfee ePO server to list all unmanaged devices and create a server task to install the McAfee agent on these unmanaged devices.

hi , McAfee agent monitor has been installed on my work laptop. is that mean that the IT can monitor and track my online browsing activities all the time ? can IT watch my online browsing activities ? thank you.
