Keynote Speech I

張瑞雄 校長

演講題目:What number before G is enough?

講者簡介:

Ruay-Shiung Chang received his B.S.E.E. degree from National Taiwan University in 1980 and his Ph.D. degree in Institute of Decision and Computer Science from National Tsing Hua University in 1988. After graduation, he had worked for Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Dong Hwa University, and Taiwan Hospitality and Tourism College. Right now, he is the President of National Taipei University of Business (NTUB). His research interests include Internet, Big Data, and AI applications. NTUB is a traditional and the oldest business university in Taiwan. Dr. Chang hopes to bring modern Information and Communication Technology into the teaching and research of NTUB.

Dr. Chang also is the President of Taiwan Intellectual Property Operation Association. He is also the vice-president of Digital Taiwan Roundtable Association. Dr. Chang also served on the advisory council for the Public Interest Registry (www.pir.org) from 2004/5 to 2007/4. Dr. Chang supervises more than 50 master students and 10 Ph.D. students to graduation. He also publishes actively in many international journals and conferences. For his contribution, Dr. Chang received the Outstanding Information Technology Elite Award from the Taiwan's Information Month Committee in 2009. In 2016, Dr. Chang received US President’s Lifetime Achievement Award and Austria Albert Schweitzer Foundation’s Achievement Award. In 2017, Dr. Chang received the Exemplary Teacher’s Award from the Venerable Master Hsing Yun Public Education Trust Fund for his longtime dedication to higher education.

演講題目:Behavior pattern mining from mobile phone sensory data

Wen-Chih Peng received the BS and MS degrees from the National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, in 1995 and 1997, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the National Taiwan University, Taiwan, R.O.C in 2001. Currently, he is a professor at the department of Computer Science, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. Prior to joining the department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Chiao Tung University, he was mainly involved in the projects related to mobile computing, data broadcasting and network data management. Dr. Peng published some papers in several prestigious conferences, such as IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE), IEEE International Conference on Data Mining (ICDM) and ACM Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (ACM CIKM) and prestigious journals (e.g., IEEE TKDE, IEEE TMC, IEEE TPDS). Dr. Peng has the best paper award in ACM Workshop on location-based social network 2009 and the best student paper award in IEEE International Conference on Mobile Data Management 2011. His research interests include mobile computing, network data management and data mining. He is a member of IEEE.

演講題目:Special Research Topics on 5G NR V2X

講者簡介:


Ren-Hung Hwang received his Ph.D. degree in computer science from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts, USA, in 1993. He joined the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Chung Cheng University, Chia-Yi, Taiwan, in 1993, where he is now a distinguished professor of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering and the Dean of the Information Technology Office. He is also jointly appointed with College of Artificial Intelligence, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and Research Center for Information Technology Innovation, Academia Sinica. He served as the Dean of the College of Engineering during 2014~2017, Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering during 2006~2009, and Chair of the Department of Communications Engineering during 2002~2005. He is currently on the editorial boards of IEICE Transactions on Communications. Prof. Hwang published more than 250 international journal and conference papers. He received the IEEE Best Paper Award from IEEE Ubi-Meida 2018, IEEE SC2 2017, IEEE IUCC 2014 and the IEEE Outstanding Paper Award from IEEE IC/ATC/ICA3PP 2012. He is also a co-author of the textbook "Computer Networks: An Open Source Approach" (www.mhhe.com/lin), with Ying-Dar Lin and Fred Baker (McGraw-Hill, 2011). He was the guest editor of special issues of IEEE Network, IET Communications, and Security and Communication Networks. Recently, he also served as the general chair of several international conferences on computer networks, include IEEE DataCom 2019, IEEE ISPAN 2018, IEEE SC2 2017, and ICS 2016. His research interests include wireless communications, Internet of Things, cloud and edge computing, software defined networks, and e-Learning. His main research focused on advanced networking technologies, formulate resource management problem of new networking model into optimization problems, and solve the optimal problems by mathematic modeling, tools, approximation algorithms, and heuristic algorithms.

講者簡介:


Sheng-Tzong Cheng received the BS (1985) and MS (1987) in Electrical Engineering from the National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan. He received the MS (1993) and PhD (1995) in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA. He was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Information Engineering at the National Dong Hwa University, Hualien, Taiwan, in 1995. He joined the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Cheng-Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan in 1997 and became an Associate Professor and a Professor in 1999 and 2004 respectively.

Dr. Cheng was the recipient of the Lee, Kuo-Din Research Award (李國鼎研究獎) to highlight his research on multimedia and wireless communications. He advised many students to receive several top-prize awards from the contests held by the Ministry of Education and the Institute of Information Industry in Taiwan, etc. He serves as the proposal review committee of National Science Council, Taiwan. He also served as the proposal review committee of Research Grants Council, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia.

Currently, Prof. Cheng is directing the ubiquitous sensing and cloud computing (USCC) laboratory in CSIE, NCKU. He also serves as the director of CSIE division in the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Taiwan from 2019. He has published more than 160 papers in the international journals and conferences, including several best-paper awards. He holds several ROC and US patents. Prof. Cheng was the program chair of ICS 2010. He was also invited to be the Keynote Speaker in MC 2010, IEEE APWCS 2011, WASN 2019, and Big Data 2019. His research interests include artificial intelligence, information security, design and performance analysis of mobile computing, wireless communications, intelligent networks, quantum computing, and real-time systems.

Terng-Yin Hsu received the Ph.D. degree from Institute of Electronics, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1999. He joined the Department of Computer Science, National Chiao Tung University, in 2003 and is currently a Professor. He was a co-founder and CTO of amoesolu cooperation (2013~2014). His current research interests include software-defined PHY on CPU and GPU, radio function split and virtualization, baseband algorithms, multi-spec PHY architectures, analog-like digital circuits, system-on-a-chip design technology, VLSI implementations, and related application-specified integrated circuits (ASIC) designs.

演講題目:Recent Progress of Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN)

講者簡介:


SHAO-YU LIEN received his Ph.D. degree from National Taiwan University in 2011. After the military service, Dr. Lien joined National Taiwan University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a postdoctoral researcher. He was with National Formosa University, as an assistant professor and associate professor from 2013 to 2017, and he is now with National Chung Cheng University as an associate professor. Dr. Lien is also the technical director of the Smart System Institute, Institute for Information Industry, since 2020. Dr. Lien received a number of prestigious research recognitions, including IEEE Tainan Section Best Young Professional Member Award 2019, IEEE Communications Society Asia-Pacific Outstanding Paper Award 2014, Scopus Young Researcher Award (issued by Elsevier) 2014, URSI AP-RASC 2013 Young Scientist Award, and IEEE ICC 2010 Best Paper Award. His research contributions on radio access congestion control has been officially included in EU FP7 Project “EXALTED”, and three of his IEEE journal papers have been listed in ESI Highly Cited Paper. Dr. Lien is a guest editor of IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking in 2019, and a guest editor of Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing (WCMC) in 2017. In the meantime, Dr. Lien also served as the leading organizer of a number of technical workshops in IEEE VTC-Spring 2015, IEEE GLOBECOM 2015, Qshine 2015 and 2016, and IEEE PIMRC 2017, IEEE GLOBECOM 2019, IEEE ICC 2020 and GLOBECOM 2020. Particularly, he is also a 3GPP standardization delegate since 2009 for LTE, LTE-A, LTE Pro and 5G NR, and in this role he has contributed more than 70 technical documents and patents in conjunction with HTC Corporation, Institute for Information Industry (III), Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and Huawei. Since 2020, he is also a technical director of Institute for Information Industry (III), Taiwan. Dr. Lien’s research interests include configurable networks, cyber-physical systems, radio access networks and robotic networks.

Dr. Chien-Chao Tseng received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, USA, in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He joined the Department of Computer Science at National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1989 and is currently a Professor of the Department. His research interests include Software Defined Networks, Network Function Virtualization, Wireless Internet, and Heterogeneous Networks. He is the P.I. of the SDNFV Orchestration for 5G project at the Center for Open Intelligent Connectivity sponsored by the Higher Education Sprout Project by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan.

Min-Zheng Shieh (mzshieh@nctu.edu.tw) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science and Information Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering, all from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, in 2003, 2004 and 2011, respectively. From 2012 to 2016, he served as an assistant research fellow of the Information and Communication Technology Laboratories, National Chiao Tung University. From 2016 to 2020, he was an assistant professor of Information Technology Service Center at National Chiao Tung University. Since 2021, he has been an assistant professor of Information Technology Service Center at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.
