Volunteer

Come help English learners practice speaking and reading!  This is a great opportunity to serve whether you already know Spanish or not.  Scroll down for all the details.

Wards/Groups: please click to green button to sign up for a day that works for you.  Here is a printable signup sheet to pass around your wards on Sunday.  We'd appreciate a heads-up if you think that your ward cannot provide at least 9 on your assigned night.  That way we can reach out for extra help.

Individual volunteers: You're welcome to show up without prior notice.  We're happy for you to drop in anytime you can.  We welcome all community members to volunteer regardless of religious affiliation.

EnglishConnect Volunteers Needed!

Join us for an evening of meaningful conversations as an EnglishConnect Volunteer! No preparation or experience is needed—just a willingness to chat and help non-native English speakers, mostly Spanish speakers, practice their conversation skills in a friendly and encouraging environment.

Our students are very motivated to learn English for work, school and family life.  They are so appreciative of those that volunteer their time to help them learn in this type of environment.  Many come away having made lasting friendships with the volunteers.

📅 Time & Arrival: Please arrive by 6:45 PM for a brief orientation. Conversations will take place in 10-minute blocks throughout the class. The teacher will handle the lesson, and you’ll engage in guided discussions on specific topics.

👥 Volunteer Needs:

• Our goal is 12-15 volunteers, with a minimum of 9 and a maximum of 25.

• With 9 volunteers, each will work with 2-4 students at a time. Ideally, we'd like 1-on-1 conversations.

🌎 Language & Experience:

• No prior teaching experience required!

• Knowledge of Spanish is helpful but not necessary.

📢 Additional Info:

• Cameron will follow up with you the weekend before your scheduled appointment with details about the lesson and any other specifics.

• Youth groups have been fantastic volunteers in the past, and we encourage groups to sign up!

• With 61 ward/branch units in our region, each ward would only be asked to volunteer every 1.5 years.

7:00pm - Conversation Activity 1 (see manual in Gospel Library)
7:15pm - Grammar instruction
7:30pm - Conversation Activity 2
7:45pm - Idioms, numbers, etc
8:00pm - Conversation Activity 3
8:15pm - Group game
