An RNA secondary structure-focused algorithm represented through graphs is proposed in the paper "AN ALGORITHM USING SECONDARY STRUCTURES FOR DETECTING FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS: LONG NON-CODING RNAS CASE". The algorithm uses tree graphs and statistical measures to analyze two sets of RNAs sequences, lncRNAs and others that are not lncRNAs, in order to extract their structural information. This algorithm finds structure similarities between the sets and establishes if those structures are present, or not, in a third set of possible lncRNAs. The sequences of our interest are from S. cerevisiae. After analyzing with the proposed algorithm the three sets, a particular sequence was pointed out as a possible lncRNA. In 2020, this fact was confirmed experimentally by Novačić et al. Although the mentioned algorithm was used in the lncRNAs case, it can also be used in order to detect other structural similarities in different organisms with certain functionality.
Here, you can find the input data and the algorithm.
