The paintings from CALABARZON. Bicol and Cebu all have the common theme of farm living, from farmers, to market sellers, to huge families who live in provincial areas. Their plights and stories are encapsulated in these art pieces. Their styles vary, from the semi-realism viewpoint of Blanco, to the mildly Impressionist nature of Gueta, to the Neo-realism of Barba. The medium used by these artists vary as well, Tindera is an oil on canvas painting, Dying Grains was made from watercolor, and Family with Rooster used mixed media.
Leyte
Dante Enage - Keep Calm and Carry On
SOCCSKSARGEN
Kublai Milan - Sabong
Davao
Victor Espinosa - Living Organisms
These paintings from Leyte, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Davao depict the human experience as a whole. Form Dante Enage's painting that encapsulates life during the pandemic, Kublai Milan's abstract impression of a favorite Filipino past time, and Victor Espinosa's impression of life. They all have almost the same style. While Keep Calm and Carry On and Living Organisms have semi-realistic and abstract styles while Sabong is almost purely abstract. In terms of media used in completing the artworks, Enage used Oil on Canvas, Milan used mixed media, and Espinosa used Oil on Canvas as well.
In conclusion, most paintings from the Philippine regions depict something that is unique to the Filipino experience. Whether it be the experiences of being in provinces or suburbs, games, and culture, the art it encompasses is something that Filipinos share. One look at all of these and your mind goes to a place you've been before, and immediately transports you to a memory. That's how powerful they are.
