Write a Descriptive Essay and Win the Hearts of Readers

By word of mouth, the first step to good writing is to write a descriptive essay. Describing people, places and things in a way that people understand and feel part of is an important tool for any writer, especially for writers who want to win the hearts of readers.

When you are considering writing a descriptive essay, consider a little tip from Pearson Writer. Their 'Power of Paragraphs' provides examples of how to make your essay 'feel' like a professional written article. Try this approach to write a short, clean article for the content editor:

The first three or four sentences are the most important concept of the essay. Tell us what kind of subject it is. If it's a work at home type job description, describe a typical work environment. Or, if it's about a profession like teaching, tell us what's interesting about the profession and what's unique about it.

Describe a day in the life of the person or place in question. Have they ever been there? How did they feel on the day? What was the most memorable event? How do you see the person/place now?

Tell us about the environment or event, giving us a description of how you saw it, how you felt and how it affected you. One or two paragraphs may be sufficient for some topics, but many topics require more detail and more sentences describing what you saw, feeling and thinking.

Now we're getting somewhere. Describe what one thing that the reader would love to have as a result of the experience. For example, when I was helping my sister with her wedding planning we were going through all the options for the decorations, were not sure which ones she really wanted and had to choose from a large selection of choices. We chose about a dozen of them and had the last one cut.
